Wow...1980 seems so long ago! But while graduation was in 1980, we were actually kids of the 70's! And we all know, the 80's were nothing like the 70's!!! How great were those years growing up? Oh the memories!! The "Remembering 1980" page will reflect what was happing in the world in 1980, but we would be remiss without some reminders of what was going on, and what we were in to, in the 1970's. In 1972, most of us were 10 years old. We became teenagers in 1975 - who can forget the awesome junior high days? We entered high school in 1976, and lived out the 2nd half of that incredible era as high schoolers. We all have our own great personal memories, but let's take a little stroll down memory lane together, shall we? |

Our youthful teen years were spent in a generation that definitely was-a-changing! Psychedelic music of the 60's was on its way out, punk was becoming popular, and disco hit the scene in a big way! The term Rock & Roll music changed as sub-categories were created: soft rock, hard rock, folk rock, punk rock, shock rock, easy listening and disco. Some of the fads from the 60's moved into the 70's, many becoming more mainstream (like long hair on males), and we embraced them all! Moving from the 60's right into the 70's included things such as: bell bottoms, beaded bracelets and necklaces (love beads), tie-dye, moccasins, smiley faces, peace signs, lava lamps, black lights and mood rings. But we also began some of our own trends in the 70's, and there were fads that were 'ours'...things that definitely defined us as children of the 70's. Below, in no particular order, are some fads that should take you back in time: |

This is a great link on America History 1970-1979. I didn't discover this library (from Lone Star College-Kingwood, American Cultural History) until I was finishing up the design of this website. Therefore, for anyone interested in getting more detailed history about the 1970's, this would be an excellent source.http://kclibrary.lonestar.edu/decade70.html |
